
There’s nothing better than nostalgia and this pie has plenty! Check out Wikipedia’s info on this old Southern pie – then make one for your family!
Ingredients:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Have your pie crust ready and in your oven safe pie dish.
For Your Bottom Layer: In a medium bowl combine molasses, hot water, and baking soda. Stir well. Whisk in beaten egg. Pour mixture into pie shell.
To Make Crumb Topping: In a medium bowl combine flour and brown sugar. Mix well, then cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle on top of molasses layer.
Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Lower temperature to 350 degrees F and bake an additional 30 minutes.

I have not seen that receipe for a ‘molasses’ pie in years.
Just the thing for the borderline diabetic!
And to think, for those who have no brown sugar in their cupboard there is the substitute of mixing molasses with white sugar. Good thing I happen to like the taste of molasses! All this lacks is the pecans!!!
